Rian McCarthy, who has been with the Makos organization for a year now, will step in and serve as our Tournament Director for the 2021 season and beyond. McCarthy coached the Makos 16uW team this past summer with Chris Ursillo, and is currently coaching one of our our OS Makos 17/18u Fall teams, alongside Derick Machado.

McCarthy will handle all aspects of our tournaments (travel, lodging, scheduling, etc) and is more than capable of doing so, given his vast experience in travel ball and baseball in general. Over the past 1+ years, he has gained an understanding of the "Mako way," and how we handle certain things, and there is no doubt that Coach McCarthy is a perfect fit for our Tournament Director.

A stud athlete from Middletown, RI, Rian played baseball at Colby-Sawyer, before entering the realm of coaching. He's coached at high level universities (including currently a coach at UMass Dartmouth), collegiate summer teams (NECBL), high schools, and top notch travel programs, like the RI Tides and the NE Ruffnecks (he even coached Coach Westy back in the day!)

Offering a ton of insight  and knowledge based on his past and current experiences, adding Coach McCarthy as a coach, as well as our Tournament Director will prove extremely beneficial for the Ocean State Makos organization!
