The Ocean State Makos 12U opened up the season with a two game sweep of the Triple Crown Kings.  In the first game, pitching was the name of the game for both clubs.  Nolan Mello was lights out on the mound as he threw 4 innings striking out 7, while allowing no hits  and no runs.  At the plate the Makos had 5 hits including a monstrous home run to center field by first year player Maddox Lora.  The Makos held off a late rally by the Kings to win the contest 5-4.

In game two of the doubleheader Kyle Rogers and Ben Sherry combined on the mound to give the Makos a 12-4 victory.  Maddox Lora built on the previous games performance with two hits and Matt Burt led the way with a three hit game.  In the top to the sixth inning after a hit by Matt Burt and walk by Kyle Rogers, Nolan Donaldson loaded the bases up with a line drive single to center.  The next batter Jayden Souza stepped to the plate and with a full count got into one for a grand slam over the right field fence.

This was a great way to start the season in Division 1 EBL Baseball and according to manager Lance Mello, he was encouraged by what he saw out of the first year players.  The Makos next league double header is this coming Sunday vs Evolution Baseball in Boylston.
